The Local Area
Askham is a village in the Eden District of Cumbria and is situated in the eastern edge of the Lake District National Park. With 2,292 square kilometers of protected landscape & twelve of the largest lakes in England, the Lake District’s fells, mountains & woodlands combine to form some impressive scenery.
The Lakes offer a spectacular backdrop for avid walkers & cyclists. The closest lake to Askham is Ullswater where visitors can take a ride on an Ullswater steamer, hire a boat or try their hand at sailing. Also close to Askham Hall itself are the remains of 19th century Lowther Castle & grounds.
Just over 25 miles up from Askham and the North Lakes is Stuart's hometown, Carlisle. With it's own historic castle, towering cathedral and of course Stuart's beloved Carlisle United football ground, it's well worth a visit for those spending an extra long weekend up north.
